Head of Discovery Data Sciences Unit
Hugo holds the degrees of MD, MSc in Bioinformatics and PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Leuven, and did postdoctoral fellowships in molecular and computational phosphatase biology at the University of Leuven and in structural bioinformatics at the European Molecular Biology Laboratories in Heidelberg. He joined Janssen in 2008 as a senior computational biologist. Hugo now heads a multidisciplinary team that focuses on the development and application of machine learning approaches for the prediction of the bioactivity of compounds at industrial scale using various data sources. One particular area of interest is activity modeling across multiple partners without mutual exposure of the underlying data. The team is also active in formulating analysis methods to unlock novel datasources like high dimensional cytometry and image-based single-cell level analysis.
